Scope of the Job
Review, monitor, and control charge capture and documentation. Provide on-site physician feedback for coding/documentation practices. Assist physicians and/or providers with documentation and billing compliance guidelines.
Review documentation and code for accurate charge capture.
Provide coding assistance to the billing groups (E&M coding, consults, bedside procedures, inpatient services, et cetera).
Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility. Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to work independently.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Coding and documentation analysis skills.
Experience with medical management information systems and medical software.
Proficiency with medical terminology.
Proficiency with CPT-4 procedural coding and ICD-9 diagnosis coding, CPC preferred.
Medical billing experience.
Ability to interact effectively with staff and outside contacts on a variety of levels.
CPC certification required within 6 months (if not certified at time of hire).
3-5 years medical billing experience required
Extensive experience in coding E&M and surgical procedures required.
Education and Certifications
High School Diploma/GED equivalent required.
