Performs diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive and health maintenance services under the direction and supervision of a physician in the ambulatory and acute setting. Duties include performance of history and physical exam with documentation, neurosurgical consults, ordering and interpreting labs, films, and studies; ability to perform procedures, i.e. lumbar punctures, suturing, wound care, OR First Assistant to surgeon. Perform daily rounds on neurosurgery spine service when necessary, facilitate admission history and physical, consent preparation and completion assistance, optimize efficiency in moving patients through hospital length of stay, discharge teaching, order and document patient discharge, including dictation of discharge summary; maintain quality to prevent readmissions with emphasis on timely discharge by 11 am when possible. This person will work with multi-disciplinary team regarding patient disposition (case mgmt, social services) as well as clinic staff in the facilitation of diagnostic work up and treatment plan. Requires ability to communicate effectively between resident and attending physicians, collaboration with ambulatory staff including appropriate hand off of information. Requirements Minimum Education: - Bachelors Degree Preferred. Graduate degree from an accredited PA program required. Minimum Experience/Knowledge: - 3 to 5 years' experience in a health care setting required. - Experience with neurological consults and history and physicals required. First Assistant OR experience for neurological surgeries preferred. Required License/Certification: - Valid and current California Physician's Assistant license required. - A Fire and Safety card must be presented upon hire or must be obtained at our facility within the first 90 days of hire and maintained by renewing before expiration date.
