Position Overview

The successful applicant will be trained to operate and maintain all of our plant and processing equipment as well as dredges. The candidate will be expected to work at all of our Central Iowa dredge operations. To operate the dredge efficiently and effectively to maximize production while at all times maintaining a safe work environment. Must partner with other plant crew members to ensure production is running at efficient levels.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for a safe work environment for themselves and co-workers.

Must follow all safety policies, procedures and rules.

Maintain the plant and keep everything running and in good condition.

Develop understanding of the products made and kept with in state specification.

Understand quality control processes and ideas

Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.

Responsible for ensuring daily maintenance is completed.

Responsible for keeping dredge clean.

Report all major maintenance problems to Lead-man or superintendent

Assist in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing, and repair of dredge to further their abilities.

Be able to lift clean out led on dredge.

Perform general laboring duties when necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Experience

Related experience and/or training preferred.

Requirements

Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical.

Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.

Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times

Must be willing to work nights, weekends and overtime when necessary.

Must be able to travel to multiple locations during a workday.

Report to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to being work at the designated start time.

Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.

Able to work in or around water. Position requires taking a boat to dredge and being out on the water all day.

Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures both hot and cold.

Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures outlined in Employee Handbook.

Able to operate front end loader and skid loader.

Must be at least 18 years of age due to nature of working environment.

Additional Requirements

Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations in order to keep time and material records.

Previous aggregate plant experience is preferred.

Must be able to work seasonally and have flexibility to work weekends and evenings during the season.

Sand and Gravel experience is a plus.

Ability to work at heights.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Ability to effectively direct others in the workplace.

Basic knowledge of Excel and Word.

Basic knowledge in electricity and mechanics.

Physical Requirements

Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.

Physical ability to perform maintenance on plants under temperature extremes and extended periods of time.

Must be able to climb ladders/stairs to maintain equipment. Requires the following motions: climbing, lifting, stooping, bending, squatting, stretching, pushing, pulling, vibrating, twisting, standing, walking sitting and reaching.

May require sitting for extended periods of time.

Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.

Able to climb ladders or stairs and to work at heights.

Able to lift/move 50-100lbs objects while using proper lifting techniques.

Able to work extended hours.

Able to work in all weather conditions.

Able to work in tight quarters.

Must be able to hold weights of 5-10 lbs in a stretched arm position for extended periods.

Able to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.
