JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Plant Operator/Foreman Reports To: Plant Superintendent FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Region: North Location: Gillette Prepared By/Date: Human Resources 12/9/10 Approved By/Date: Bryson Gambrel 4/12/13 Summary: Operates and maintains asphalt manufacturing plant, dispatches trucking fleet, orders raw materials (AC, Lime, Propane, Aggregate), and monitors material usage. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain a safe working environment for all activities onsite; continually inspects work site surveying for potential hazards or safety concerns. Develops plans for efficient use of materials, plant, and employees. Reviews production costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division. Orders required material in advanced to complete assigned task based on construction schedule as provided by construction superintendent and/or project manager Maintains yard logs and assists Plant Superintendent with plant log. Recommends budget to management. Adjusts controls to regulate the flow of materials and maintains the speed of systems. Ensures the plant is operating at the proper temperature. Ensures that the plant is operating in accordance with all applicable regulations Performs repairs on, Conveyors, Drums, Baghouses, Augers, Feeders, and preventative maintenance such as greasing and corrosion control Coordinates with construction superintendent/project managers with trucks and outside hires and collects outside truck timecards if needed. Ensures accurate quantities are coded to the correct job and phase codes Competency: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Analytical - Designs work flows and procedures. Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Inventory software and Internet software. Certificates and Licenses: None required Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise up to three employees in the Plant Operations. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
