The Plant Performance/Safety Analysis Engineer will perform thermal hydraulic, nuclear kinetics and radiological calculations of ESBWR plant and issue associated requirements for systems and equipment. Work within a team environment, working with a global team of partner organizations and suppliers to advance ESBWR plant design.

Essential Responsibilities
In addition, in this role you will:
  • Document system and equipment performance requirements derived from the plant safety analysis, Inspection, Test, & Analysis Acceptance Criteria (ITAACs), and Tech Specs
  • Perform safety system set-point calculations, including measurement uncertainties for example core flow and water level measurement uncertainty
  • Calculate boundary conditions and other technical inputs for vendors
  • Author work instructions, desktop guides and deliverable descriptions for Plant Performance products
  • Perform and verify nuclear kinetics and thermal hydraulic evaluations of plant performance during trip avoidance, pipe breaks, power/flow oscillations, fission product transport, containment environment and severe accidents
  • Determine and document radiation shielding and ALARA requirements for new plants, review and perform dose and shielding calculations
  • Evaluate fuel and core designs
  • Interface with internal and external customers, licensing, the NRC and international regulatory authorities on technical issues
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership in area of expertise to other engineers and projects
  • Incorporate design requirements into analyses and design documents
  • Work within a cross-discipline team environment to execute work plans and schedules as applicable for mission success
  • Perform work in compliance with policies and procedures
  • Implement work plans in accordance with the overall GEH Regulatory and Procedure Excellence Initiative and ESBWR Engineering requirements engineering program
  • Support GEH quality requirements, including participation in design reviews, initiating and responding to Corrective Actions
  • Provide on-time, quality delivery of equipment packages and engineering documentation in accordance with contract requirements, business procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines
  • Support commercial and marketing opportunities for New Plants
  • Support Company initiatives: Simplication, LEAN, DFSS & DMAIC Six Sigma, New Product Introduction and Digitization
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project
  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering position
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in solving thermodynamic, fluid flow and heat transfer problems or nuclear kinetics problems
  • Minimum 1 year of experience following quality assurance and administrative procedures
  • Minimum 1 year of experience demonstrating attention to details and quality with a questioning attitude
  • Minimum 1 year of experience presenting verbally as well as written communications to business partners

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Master of Science Degree or PhD in Science or Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of experience including experience in safety analysis or core and fuel design of nuclear power plants
  • TRACG, TRACE, RELAP, RETRAN, PANACEA, MCNP, MicroShield, RADTRAD or MELCOR application experience
  • Experience in ITAAC, COLR, COLA, or Technical Specification creation, adherence and revision
  • Successful closure of Design reviews as design team or review team chair
  • Knowledge of the BWR design, including FW and Turbine/Pressure control system
  • SRO, STA, Reactor engineer or operating plant engineering staff experience
  • Core design experience
  • FORTRAN, C, C++ or Visual Basic programming skills
  • Proven ability to think strategically, be creative and move quickly
  • Quick learner, able to sort through information and make timely and sound decisions
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Open communication style and proven ability to develop team relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team with multiple demands and priorities
  • Knowledge of nuclear business products, business processes, customers and competitive environment
  • Knowledge of GEH ESBWR and ABWR Certified Designs
  • Experience with GE documentation system, practices and requirements
  • Familiar with GE eDRF, & eIV configuration management tools
  • Demonstrated high energy and the ability to energize others
  • Detail oriented and accountable for completion of work and assignments
  • Team player with strong leadership capabilities
  • Self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Legacy of delivering on commitments; tenacious, with a proven track record of overcoming obstacles

  • Strong external focus; clear and demonstrated understanding of nuclear industry and/or energy industry
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the United States
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
