Job Description The Police Department of Richard Bland College of William and Mary is accepting applications for the position of (part-time) police officer. The successful applicant will understand and practice campus/community policing, providing emergency medical response; patrolling the college campus; conducting routine traffic enforcement to include speeding, accidents, parking, etc.; enforce the laws of the Commonwealth and College policies and regulations, and perform all other duties as assigned. Emergency Medical Technician or Emergency Medical Responder certification preferred. The officer will perform these duties to meet the College's and department's mission.

The successful applicant will possess effective communication skills to successfully interact with administration, faculty, staff, students, visitors, and the general public. This is a part-time position with a hiring range of $20.00 to $22.00 per hour, 29 hours per week and/or 1,500 hours a year, with no employee benefits. Successful applicant(s) must be able to work the following shifts: Day 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Evening 6 p.m. - 4 a.m., and Midnight 9 p.m.-7 a.m.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
-Current certification as a law enforcement officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services
-At least 21 years of age and a U. S. citizen
-Virginia driver's license
-High School diploma or GED required
-Radar/LIDAR certified or must obtain within one (1) year of hire
-Emergency Medical Responder certified or must obtain within one (1) year of hire
-No convictions of felonies and/or serious misdemeanors
-Successfully pass all phases of the police officer selection process to include: extensive background investigation, MMPI, polygraph examination, interview, and a medical and drug screening by a physician

Special Requirements It is the practice of Richard Bland College to conduct in-depth background checks on all candidates identified as a finalist for employment consideration at the College. The type of background checks performed are dependent upon the type of position for which you have been identified as a finalist and may include: reference checks, criminal history including sexual offender registry checks, degree validation, DMV (driving) Record checks, license verification, credit report reviews, etc. The results of background checks are made available to the College employing officials. You will be requested to sign a reference release form, so your past schools and/or employers may be contacted concerning your academic or employment history.
