THIS POSITION IS A SEASONAL POSITION THEREFORE THE WORK HOURS WILL VARY
This position in the Parks and Recreation Department provides immediate supervision over safety enforcement personnel at the swimming pool. The individual in this position is supervised by the Aquatics Supervisor, who provide direction and regular performance evaluations.
Trains personnel in lifeguards duties; supervises correct implementation
Acts as supervisor on duty in absence of Aquatic Supervisor
Maintains the health and safety of all users of the facility and all employees
Ensure proper pool maintenance, repair, and chemical balance
Enforces rules and regulations
Prevents accident and injuries while instructing pool attendees in swimming pool safety
Administers first aid and CPR necessary
Receives complaints and requests for information on pool operation from pool patrons and staff
Notifies Aquatic Superintendent of needed supplies or repairs
Coordinates lifeguard work schedules, and supervises their compliance
Communicates with the Aquatic Specialist and Aquatic Superintend on a schedule basis regarding pool operations
The incumbent may be required to work emergency callout and mandatory overtime; requires evening and weekend hours; schedule may vary
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Graduation from High School or completion of GED
Basic knowledge of care, upkeep, and preventative maintenance of aquatic facilities.
Have or ability to maintain AFO or CPO certification (must have within 6 months of hire)
Current certification Lifeguard Training instructor
Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguard Training
Current First Aid Certification
Current CPR Certification
3-6 years lifeguard experience
Knowledge of current pool hygiene and sanitation practices.
Skills working with young people and securing their adherence to rules, regulations and safe work practices.
Extensive knowledge of various rescue methods, professional rescue standards and first aid.
Skill in receiving and giving verbal and written instructions and directives
Ability physically to walk, stoop, climb, sit, bend and lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work extended hours and evening, holidays, and weekends.
Ability to maintain good physical conditioning.
Ability to conduct oneself in professional manner.
Ability to work in extreme heat and cold.
