Job Purpose : The University of Alaska Statewide Academic Affairs works closely with secondary, post-secondary, and employers across the state to meeting their educational, teacher preparation, and employment training needs by leveraging the campuses and programs available through the University of Alaska system. The Office of Academic Affairs is seeking to fill the position of K-12 Outreach Director. Responsibilities for this position include oversight and/or direct responsibilities for management of the federally funded i3 grant including management and supervision of staff associated with the grant (i3 project coordinator/mentors) and management and direction of programs including the Alaska Statewide Mentorship Project, Alaska Teacher Placement, and Future Educators of Alaska program. This position acts as the Project Director for a five-year federal grant expanding teacher mentoring into four urban schools districts.

Requirements: STRATEGIC PLANNING
Lengthy and well established experience with institutions and personnel across UA and K12 in Alaska; Understanding of both K12 and UA education regulations and requirements for EED, School Districts, Teacher certification regulations; Understanding and knowledge of federal reporting requirements and management requirement in DOE; Understanding and familiarity with educational research in areas of responsibilities; Understanding of UA academic department needs and requirements in addition to established relationships and communications with executive leadership both in UA and in K12. Ability to articulate political, position, and regulatory perspective needs and integrate with current needs, ideas, and trends in K12 and Higher Education such that strategies might be developed to implement innovative programs to serve both educational entities and enhance partnerships and collaboration in the interest of students. Experience with facilitation of relationships with MAU Schools of Education, faculty, and teacher education groups.
UNDERSTANDING OF K12-HIGHER EDUCATION TRENDS
Current understanding of K12-Higher education relations in areas of teacher preparation, recruitment, assessment, and evaluation both in Alaska and across the nation. Conceptual understanding and experience with differing models of designing and implementing strategies for building partnerships and collaboration across educational sectors at the state and federal levels.
COMMUNICATIONS
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to meet with education leaders across the state and Nationwide. Ability to facilitate and direct meetings with faculty, deans, stakeholders, advisory committees, and other vested partners. Experience and ability to present in public and academic forums. Experience developing publications to market programs and ability to create funding opportunities with both public and private agencies. Experience in higher education teacher preparation programs and with research in these areas. Regularly communicate with UA Executive leadership to create and implement innovative programs.
TEACHER RECRUITMENT, MARKETING, MENTORING, ASSESSMENT, RESEARCH
Background in education, teacher recruitment, and teacher mentoring. Knowledge of the university and K12 education system as is it relates to teacher recruitment and retention and teacher mentoring. Advanced knowledg
