Job description:Scope of Position:|
This post-doctoral research position will involve working in the high-speed transmission systems laboratory for long-haul optical fiber communications research. While mainly working with transmission over single-mode fiber at channel data rates up to 400 Gb/s, there is likely to be involvement in other fiber communications projects concerned with shorter distance transmission and multimode fiber, as well as possibly multi-core fiber. The research will be primarily experimental in nature, but will involve close collaboration with other researchers performing simulations and modeling of optical fiber transmission systems. Interaction with, and support of, Corning commercial business representatives are expected and part of the position scope.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Actively conceive, design, and execute experiments in high data rate optical fiber transmission systems over commercially available and experimental/developmental optical fiber. Closely coordinate with a research technician or technologist in all experimental phases. Identify, justify, and acquire the necessary equipment or materials needed to carry out the formulated research plans. Document research in either internal presentations and reports, and/or external publication and conference presentations. Generate intellectual property with patent applications. Conduct research in the general framework of research projects staffed by researchers from various disciplines. Work interactively with people across all organizations. Travel Requirements: Attend conferences 1-2 times per year, may be international. Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours/week
Experience with, and theoretical understanding of, optical fiber communications systems. Laboratory experience in advanced optical communications systems-level research. Experience with advanced test and measurement equipment. Experience with optical fiber modules, amplifiers, transmitters and receivers. Data analysis skills. Microsoft Office skills.
Digital signal processing. High-speed RF electronics. Matlab
Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):
Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team and individually. Ability to divide time between 2 or more projects
