The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and the Center for Integrated Technologies (CINT) in collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories are working together to develop new class of photovoltaics to achieve high performance on CdTe based solar cells.
Works in all phases of project including clean room fabrication of the devices, electro-optical characterization, and physical characterization using TEM and SEM. Conducts, monitors, and analyzes research projects to include interpreting results, recommending technology-based solutions, or determining computational strategies; monitors long-range research objectives, programs, and priorities. Assists with conducting data quality assurance procedures; applies customized products, equipment, formulas, processes, or analytical methods; prepares research data sets and documents data structure and definitions; may develop new software applications or customize existing applications to meet specific scientific project needs. Ensures adherence to laboratory standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness; compiles and analyzes test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency or to diagnose malfunctions. Participates in proposal writing and coordination for external funds for equipment acquisitions. Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
Other related functions as assigned.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials, or related field and be proficient in the English language to include reading, writing and speaking.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Experience in semiconductor thin film fabrication, clean room protocols, and electro-optical characterization is preferred. Experience with CdTe or other compound semiconductor fabrication for photovoltaic applications. Extensive knowledge of FIB, TEM, and SEM operation and capabilities. Experience with electrical nano-probing, EBIC and EBSD. Applicant must be able to demonstrate publication record.
