Job Description
A postdoctoral position is now open for a bioinorganic/organometallic chemist to study the dynamic control of peptide-based catalysts.
The focus of the project is to incorporate and control stimulus sensitive peptides into catalysts for carbon-based transformations, with the goal of achieving enzyme-like control over catalytic activity.
The candidate will use air sensitive techniques to build the organometallic catalysts and peptide chemistry to build and incorporate the stimulus sensitive peptides.
A variety of techniques, including electrochemistry, NMR, FTIR, XAFS, CD and GC will be used to characterize the structures of the peptide catalysts, as well as catalyst activity and dynamic control.
The work will be carried out in synergy with the experimental and theoretical work of the homogeneous catalysis group at PNNL and the Center for Molecular Electro-catalysis at PNNL.
Basic research in synthetic and mechanistic organometallic and inorganic chemistry and incorporation and characterization of peptide ligands.
Develop a fundamental mechanistic understanding of key intermediates during catalysis.
Structural and functional characterization of catalysts and intermediates.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years from an accredited college or university.
All staff at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory must be able to demonstrate the legal right to work in the United States.
Experience in synthetic and mechanistic organometallic/inorganic chemistry and handling air-sensitive materials is required. Experience with amino acids and/or proteins is highly desirable. Excellent oral and written communications skills are mandatory. Experience with a range of spectroscopic techniques, particularly NMR, is required.
Experience in electrochemical measurements is desirable.
Ph.D. in organometallic chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry or inorganic chemistry.
