Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the College of Pharmacy (COP), Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, located in Hilo, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.


DUTIES: Works with Principal Investigator in managing the day-to-day organization of the Sun laboratory’s Research program in the areas of organic and medicinal chemistry. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry, and a strong background in multi-step organic synthesis. This highly motivated candidate is expected to be responsible for the synthesis and structure activity relationships (SAR) development of novel anti-microbial agents, which are based on related small molecules and/or emerging natural product leads.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Doctorate from an accredited college or university. EXPERIENCE: Two to four (2-4) years of relevant experience, which includes graduate thesis work. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Scientific writing to prepare manuscripts, reports and grant proposals. Understanding of pharmaceutical science. Professional communication skills, written and oral. Full understanding of confidentiality. General computer skills, using numerous software programs: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access); Endnote. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Working with chemicals and reagents.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: PhD from an accredited college or university in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry. Experience working in a university environment. Experience in multistep organic synthesis.
