Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications, with continued appointment (fellowship provides 2 years of salary coverage that is assessed annual with the potential for a maximum of three years) being dependent upon performance and availability of funding. Job Summary / Basic Function:
The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is an environmental sciences research organization within the Nevada System of Higher Education. DRI is seeking an innovation post-doctoral fellow in Cyber-physical Systems to join a small team that will support the newly launched Applied Innovation Center in Advanced Analytics (AIC). The new AIC will partner with business within and outside Nevada to help translate scientific ideas into practical solutions using fee-based business model called contract innovation services. The AIC environment is similar to a technology start-up. AIC will specialize in one of the highest growth areas for technological innovation and economic impact: information technology, data science, and engineering for intelligent systems and operations. The successful candidate will design, implement and investigate advanced automation systems, sensor networks and data streams. The individual hired will also work as a part of a broader team to promote the success of the AIC, interact with DRI researchers, and support external clients with solutions that best fit the need of the projects.
Responsibilities for All Innovation Fellows
Work as part of the AIC team that includes business development, project management, developers, and interns
As part of the business development team, participate in business development activities and identify important business opportunities with industry and government agencies
Work with AIC team to engage in R&D on behalf of clients
Establish and grow investigative professional competency in Cyber-Physical Systems
Generate intellectual property
Consult with other researchers at DRI
Author and contribute to grant proposals
Develop and present informal training classes
Mentor program developers in preparing deliverables for clients
Supervise, mentor and direct student interns
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a quantitative field in Science or Engineering from an accredited institution
Demonstrated expertise in Cyber-physical systems
Demonstrated expertise in an object-oriented programming language
Excellent communicator and enthusiastic team player
Excellent customer service and ability to interact professionally with internal and external clients
Self-starter who can take direction but does not require it
Ability to work independently and to show leadership as exhibited by success in prior project deadlines and goals
Greater consideration will be given to those who possess the following skills and attributes:
Demonstrated expertise in software design, development and engineering
Demonstrated expertise in one or more of embedded systems, robotics, control systems, or microcontrollers
Familiarity with signal processing, real-time systems and distributed computing
Deep familiarity with one or more of computer architecture, sensors, RFIDs, sensor networks, artificial intelligence, wired and wireless communication protocols
