Perform operations on plant equipment and auxiliaries as directed, such as starting, stopping and clearing equipment for work. This site has two combined cycle Units with each containing two GE 7FA gas turbines and a D11 steam turbine and two supercritical units with each containing a once-through supercritical Babcock and Wilcox natural gas fired boiler driving General Electric cross compound turbine generators. One unit is rated at 754 MW’s and the other unit is rated at 755 MW’s.
1. Perform operations on plant equipment and auxiliaries as directed, such as starting, stopping and clearing equipment for work. 2. Make routine chemical readings and tests. 3. Check cause of mechanical problems and perform minor mechanical maintenance. 4. Prepare maintenance requests for equipment needing repair. 5. Change charts, ink recorder pens and perform general housekeeping duties. 6. Perform other duties as directed such as preparing reports, logs and time sheets. 7. Will be required to participate in on- or off-the-job training as required. 8. Must work both rotating and standard shifts, as required, with periodic shift changes. 9. Responsible to their immediate supervisor to ensure that they comply with the Environmental Compliance Program and that they have taken all reasonable precautions to prevent incidents of noncompliance by themselves or on the part of others. They shall further be responsible to immediately report to their supervisor any known or suspected violations to the environmental program or any situation they suspect could lead to a violation. 10. Responsible to maintain confidentiality of all company information. 11. Perform necessary housekeeping functions of the project. 12. Perform all duties and responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor to this position, but not specifically stated in this description. 13. Must be able to personally respond to plant emergencies, which will also include call outs and over time as needed to support plant operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school education or equivalent and three (3) years of work related experience. SPECIAL SKILLS: 1. Must know the principles of electricity and mechanics and the operating functions of power plant equipment. 2. Must know the procedures for starting, stopping, controlling and isolating plant equipment during emergencies and for repairs. 3. Able to demonstrate knowledge of the plant and the equipment. 4. Will be required to know first aid practices, plant safety rules and procedures. 5. Must be mentally and physically capable of responding to and assisting in plant emergencies, such as fighting fires. 6. Must be able to personally respond to plant emergencies. 7. Must be physically capable of climbing stairs and ladders. 8. Must be capable of physically demanding work at heights and with adverse conditions during operations and when participating in fire/emergency activities. 9. Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space. 10. Must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs. of weight. 11. Must have eyesight corrected to 20/40 to accurately read and interpret instruments and gauges. 12. Must be physically capable to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test. 13. Must be physically capable to work a rotating shift schedule. 14. Must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment, and portable radio communication. 15. Valid drivers license required. 16. Position will require physical examination and random drug screening.
Preferences GE 7FA gas turbine and GE steam turbine experience or with a once-through supercritical Babcock and Wilcox natural gas fired boiler driving General Electric cross compound turbine generators rated at 754 MW’s.
Experience with either or both is preferred. Previous power plant experience as a plant operator is highly preferred.
