Weyerhaeuser Company is searching for a Process Control Engineer for our Engineered Lumber Products business. This position is part of a continuous improvement team and will report to the Regional ELP Process Control Engineer. He/She will provide direct process control engineering support to either the Natchitoches, LA ELP facility or the Zwolle, LA ELP facility with flow to work as needed to our ELP facility in Emerson, Arkansas.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, training and supporting process control improvement solutions across the three ELP manufacturing locations. He/She will work closely with mill personnel, corporate teams, and technology providers to identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions in support of business and operational goals.

Natchitoches and Zwolle, Louisiana are located in north central Louisiana, approximately sixty miles south of Shreveport, LA. Both are located in an area of Louisiana that is close to several lakes which are known for their recreational benefits: Toledo Bend Reservoir, Sibley Lake and Cane River Lake. Candidates will have the ability to reside in Natchitoches or Zwolle or several towns located near the mill sites (Pineville, Alexandria, Winnfield, Many, and Mansfield are all located within driving distance).

Key Functions:
  • Role model all safety standards / processes and on-the-job behavior by living our core principles of integrity, fairness, and creating a positive, inclusive work environment
  • Develop, lead and support application of process and process control best practices, including joining with mill leadership to develop mid and long term process control strategies
  • Understand and share industry best practices, equipment options, and proven strategies for manufacturing control systems and applications. Proactively identify opportunities for process control improvement, variability reduction, and cost reduction.
  • Provide project and technical leadership, including training, for local process control technology applications and PLC technicians.
  • Serve as a key ELP resource for projects installation nd support, including sourcing vendors, materials, documentation and training.
  • Create visibility of technology with potential for application in our manufacturing operations.
  • Build relationships with ELP business lead team members, units supported and other process control resources
  • Help to ensure alignment of project portfolio with business and operational goals.

  • The following qualifications are required:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in electrical, industrial, mechanical or electrical engineering technology or equivalent 5 years work experience supporting process control solutions in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated success in developing and applying process control solutions for process improvement and cost reduction
  • Capable of managing multiple projects
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal direct supervision
  • Proficiency level knowledge of PLCs, HMIs and related systems
  • Ability to participate in cross functional team projects with participation from local and corporate engineering resources
  • Excellent verbal, written and team building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation and problem solving skills
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell (PLC5 through Logix 5000) and Wonderware

  • The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience in wood productions manufacturing
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to diagnose complex process scenarios
  • Proficiency using process historian systems and analysis tools such as Aspen IP/21 and GE Proficy Plant applications
  • Experience developing applications with programming languages such as Visual Basic, C, or Java.
  • Experience with databases such as Microsoft SQL server.
  • Experience in LEAN manufacturing or similar principals and practices.
