Scope of Position:
Supervise, support, and develop engineers/scientists in the Optics & Applied Physics Modeling group. Build a partnership with various organizations in optical fiber, and strategically manage modeling activities supporting that business. Share responsibilities for long-term strategic planning, and day-to-day operation of the Modeling & Simulation department, with director and the rest of the staff.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Work with Staff Team on work prioritization, long-term technology planning, assessment of project status, and talent planning. Participate in Research portfolio planning. Meet regularly with internal customers to discuss technology needs, project status, people's performance. Identify and discuss people development needs; get agreement on development actions; monitor progress. Mentor team members to work effectively and to communicate results that drive project decisions. Maintain and leverage cross-organizational and cross-functional collaborations
Travel Requirements : A few trips per year, some international.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time : Flex time, with core hours of 9 AM to 4 PM, occasional evening/weekend hours as needed
M.S. or Ph.D. in physics, optics, engineering, or applied math, and competence in using numerical modeling to solve problems.
Required Years and Area of Experience: 10 years working experience, but exceptions can be made for strong candidates
Strong problem solving skills and scientific insight. Results-oriented thinking. Technical background in physics, optics, electrical engineering or chemical engineering Must be able to build partnerships and work effectively across organizational boundaries Good coaching and supervisory skills.
