Position Title: Process/Packaging Technician (Quality)
Reports To: Site R&D Manager
Purpose of Role:
The Process/Packaging Technician is responsible for managing the finished goods hold process at the plant level and within the business segment to ensure food safety, product traceability, and consumer satisfaction. The Process/Packaging Technician is also responsible for
site packaging implementation and issue resolution
This position reports into the Site R&D Manager and is a critical interface between Supply, Commercial, and R&D. This position will use established Quality Standards and Corporate Principles along with a technical background to accomplish established goals and objectives.
This position requires working closely with Supply, Operations, Logistics and R&D
associates to address and trend non-conformances, process efficiency, package quality and reliability, quality management systems and operational conformance related to packaging.
This position also requires working closely with Packaging Scientists, Packaging Vendors, Product & Process Development, Supply, Supplier Quality
Assurance, Engineering, and Commercial to identify the most cost effective packaging solutions for product quality and safety.
The Quality Assurance Technician will support cost savings, growth initiatives, and assist in the implementation of new technologies and global initiatives, to assure the consideration and transfer of the most current processes, methodologies, and techniques.
Manage non-conforming product inventory & traceability
Manage co-pack product traceability
Perform VLM and SAP transactions to assure non-conforming product inventory management
Key user of Atlas outbound and inbound system
Key user of Nexus for Non-Conformances
Ensure timely and effective communication with distribution centers regarding finished goods
Effectively maintain documentation and ensures that the documentation is readily retrievable, manages data entry, and Atlas outbound and report generation.
Ensure timely disposition of hold product (sampling, destruction, release, donation)
Drive continuous improvement in Quality systems (Hold Management, ISO, Nexus and packaging)
Develop and deliver training on Hold Management and traceability programs and best practices
Manage ISO documents for Hold Management (define and update documents needed for ISO)
Work with others to improve hold processes and packaging quality through innovation, effective change control, research, and auditing
Conduct annual site trace and retrieval exercises for product and packaging
Conduct internal quality audits
Write, support and manage packaging line trials and packaging improvement activities
Work with suppliers to provide sustainable solutions to defective packaging solutions
Provide leadership in the transfer of new technologies to sister Mars sites
Develop and deliver packaging technical training.
Drive and implement initiatives that support lean philosophy and reduce waste
Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

Excellent understanding of outbound product related procedures
Strong knowledge of Atlas outbound and inbound system
Knowledge of VLM system
Ability to work independently as well as within a team setting
Strong knowledge of Food Safety (HACCP), Regulatory, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’S), ISO certifications
Strong computer skills. Demonstrated proficiency of computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, power point, graphics, macros, access, etc.
Proven application of basic hold management and/or quality tools
Ability and aptitude to work in an R&D, Manufacturing and/or Distribution environment.
Ability to work in an R&D, Manufacturing, and/or Distribution environment.
Good interpersonal, teamwork and troubleshooting skills
Packaging Quality Assurance
In depth knowledge of the site’s packaging systems

Understanding of inbound and outbound logistics
Minimum of 3 years experience in food manufacturing
Understanding of packaging process, and machine operations
The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a
Bachelor or Associates degree in a technical discipline such as engineering, food
science, or packaging science
Successful Completion of background and drug screen
Preferred experience in corrugated, film processing or foil wrap
