The Prestressed Concrete Bridge Standards Engineer plays a very integral statewide role in helping to ensure that the bridge design community is following ODOT standards, procedures, policies, accepted practices, directions and guidelines.
Works in a routine office setting in headquarters or regional tech centers
Occasional field inspection of bridges for condition and bridges under repair requiring climbing and using appropriate fall protection equipment and confined space air equipment
Work close proximity to vehicular traffic and exposure to extreme weather conditions and hazardous materials.
On occasion can require the operation of man-lift equipment in order to access portions of a structure.
This position is represented by the Association of Engineering Employees of Oregon (AEE)
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Minimum Qualifications :
A valid Professional Engineer’s (PE) license in Civil, Structural, or Transportation-related engineering and three (3) years of journey level professional engineer experience.
NOTE: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain comity within six months of hire.
Criminal Background and additional pre-employment check(s) as required for the position will be conducted on final candidates (could include Driver License, LEDS, and/or Education Verification).

Serve as technical expert for Technical Services in the specific area of structural design of prestressed concrete highway, railroad, other-highway-related structures and associated bridge appurtenances.
Ensures that prestressed concrete design standards, practices and policies are current, applicable, and appropriate in the changing field of structural engineering
Develop and initiate routine changes and corrections/modifications to the ODOT Bridge Design & Drafting Manual (BDDM), Special Provisions, Standard Drawings and Standard Specifications as required.
Perform independent research on topics for incorporation into future versions of the BDDM Manual.
Review new products that are normally associated with a prestressed concrete bridge for the Qualified Products List and also serve as a specialty expert resource for the Regional Tech Centers
Participates on and represents Technical Services/Bridge Engineering Section on project teams which may require driving to and visiting the project site
Uses broad base of engineering experience, with a high degree of specialized knowledge to develop a multitude of innovative project solutions
Train internal and external technical resources and professional engineering staff in the art and science of designing prestressed concrete bridges and associated appurtenances
Performing quality assurance reviews on completed concrete bridge design work.
Assist Regional Bridge Inspectors assess the condition of prestressed concrete bridge members and structural details that are sensitive to structural distress.
Assisting with the outsourcing of condition assessment work on prestressed concrete bridges
Being a technical resource to the Regional Tech Centers throughout the bridge design and construction phase
Representing ODOT on regional and national committees related to prestressed concrete bridge design and other areas of expertise
Develop and implement a quality control/assurance review process on completed prestressed concrete bridge design work, and disseminate guidance and recommendations to the Region Tech Centers and Consultant personnel
Provide statewide leadership and prestressed concrete engineering support to the Regional Tech Center resources and other professional engineering staff, throughout the bridge design and construction phases
Maintain liaison relationship between ODOT and industry
Provide leadership for the Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Committee
Participate on the Bridge Engineering Section Accelerated Bridge Construction Committee. Develop new prestressed concrete standard details to assist and promote accelerated bridge construction.\
