Houston Baptist University seeks a Band Director and Director of Instrumental Studies.

Job Responsibilities: The candidate will have responsibility for initiating, teaching and administering the new band program at Houston Baptist University with an emphasis on developing the athletic bands for a Division I athletic program for football and basketball.

Qualifications: Applicants must have demonstrable successful experience with marching band charting and show design; effective leadership skills for participating in a team environment to develop the future for a marching band in an emerging Division I athletic program in a prominent conference; will collaborate with music faculty to develop the artistic, educational, and service components of the band department through selected curricular areas in the Department of Music including the formation and administration of a marching band, basketball band, and a wind ensemble/wind symphony. The Director will have creative and artistic responsibility for developing and charting the marching band and applicants with skill at arranging and/or composing music for the ensembles and those with successful experience with athletic bands at the college or university level will be given preference. Candidates must contribute to the Texas band culture through professional organizations, school band clinics, and music education conferences and cultivate positive relations with faculty, band alumni, university administration, athletic department officials, and friends of the University.

A Master’s degree in music is required, doctorate preferred, ABD accepted. In addition to traditional materials including a minimum of three current references, finalists will be required to submit video recordings of both a rehearsal and performance for marching band and wind ensemble/concert band. Successful candidates will also possess the ability to teach courses in Music from a Christian worldview and will demonstrate enthusiasm for our classical liberal arts core curriculum which includes embracing the need for these courses to complement each other.
