Non-exempt; full-time; 35 hours per week; Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; full-benefits; g rant-funded

This position will assist with implementing developmental activities for infants, toddlers and preschool age children with developmental delays and disabilities and family support services provided through the Frederick County Infants and Toddlers Program. Services will be provided under the specific direction of professional staff. Services are provided in children’s home, childcare facilities, preschool classrooms and other locations throughout the county. Supervision is received from the Infants and Toddlers Program Supervisor and/or Director, FCDC.

Examples of Work:
  • Assist with, preparation and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities for infants, toddlers and preschool age children with developmental delay and disabilities
  • Assist with supporting the specific developmental needs of each child as well as parent/child activities
  • Assist professional staff with data collection related to developmental assessment and documentation of developmental progress.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), in classroom, small groups, community-based and home-based settings
  • Maintain daily logs, written observation on infants, toddlers and preschool age children; as appropriate
  • Maintain the physical environment to meet the needs of infants and toddlers with developmental delays in a safe, nurturing and enriching atmosphere
  • Provide supervision of infants, toddlers and preschool aged children with disabilities and their siblings during on-site parent-training opportunities
  • Perform general office support duties (filing, photocopying, file maintenance, etc.)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • High school graduation or the equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with children (ages newborn – 5 years old) in a preschool and/or community setting (excludes exclusively home childcare providers), which must include at least 1 year of experience working with children with developmental delays and disabilities or a minimum of 3 years experience working directly with children (up to age 18 years) in a disability related program such as early intervention, special education or other disability program.
  • Minimum 1 year of Early Childhood Education college credits may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement
  • Accurate math and clerical skills, with ability to properly complete logs, reports and other departmental record-keeping
  • Ability to work with sensitive, personal information and maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with persons of diverse educational, cultural and economic backgrounds; public officials and program administrators; co-workers; and the general public, with particular sensitivity toward the concerns and priorities of Infants and Toddlers Program families
  • Ability to effectively access and utilize word processing, data management, e-mail and other computerized applications
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills including the ability to clearly present program information for varied audiences and to compile and prepare accurate and clear statistical data and written reports
  • Physical requirements include the ability to move in and out of a variety of positions quickly to adequately meet the needs of a preschool population, lift and carry children weighing up to approximately 40 pounds and organize classroom furniture/equipment
  • Additional closely-related education or training
  • The above-referenced experience (either paid, volunteer , student or as a client) in a program such as Infants and Toddlers or other disability-related program
  • Secondary language skills in spoken and written Spanish, with the expectation to interpret for the program, as needed

Additional Information/Examination Process:
  • Ability to provide own transportation between sites
  • Willingness and ability to complete initial and on-going training as required
  • Available for varied workdays and hours within the FCDC operating schedule
  • The grant that funds this position will determine the funding and benefits associated with this position.

  • This position is considered essential personnel in the event of a public health emergency
  • When evaluating part-time experience, 1 year = 2080 hours (must be clearly documented on application form)
