The Aspen Institute is an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC. Its mission is to foster leadership based on enduring values and to provide a nonpartisan venue for dealing with critical issues. The Institute has campuses in Aspen, Colorado, and on the Wye River on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It also maintains offices in New York City and has an international network of partners.
The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE)
The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) is a global network of organizations that propel entrepreneurship in emerging markets. ANDE members provide critical financial, educational, and business support services to small and growing businesses (SGBs) based on the conviction that SGBs will create jobs, stimulate long-term economic growth, and produce environmental and social benefits. Ultimately, we believe that SGBS can help lift countries out of poverty. ANDE is a policy program of the Aspen Institute.
Members of ANDE include both for and nonprofit investment funds, capacity development providers, research and academic institutions, development finance institutions and corporations from around the world. Launched with 34 members in 2009, ANDE now comprises over 175 members who collectively operate in more than 150 countries.
ANDE identifies common strategic challenges and opportunities facing SGBs, and, based on these findings, provides programs and services for our members and the sector as a whole. We aspire to be the leading convener and conduit for organizations and individuals committed to building SGBs in the developing world. We act as a trusted advocate for the SGB sector, educating investors and policy makers about the extraordinary opportunity the sector represents. ANDE works to dramatically increase the amount and effectiveness of capital and technical/business assistance for entrepreneurs in developing countries. With the right support, we believe SGBs will generate much needed employment, and in the process, address critical social and environmental problems in the developing world.
The Program Coordinator joins a small team dedicated to delivering products and services to members of the network and to pursuing the organizational mission. He or she will have a number of roles that span a variety of important functions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative and Operations
Manage and support ANDE working groups as assigned
Support ANDE member database (Salesforce) and member portal (YourMembership) management
Compile and file ANDE timesheets and expense forms
Conference and Meeting Logistics
Work with team to design conference content and agenda
Draft invitations and thank you letters, track RSVPs, prepare correspondence regarding logistics guidelines for events and disseminate to participants
Assist in venue selection and management of communications with venue, catering, and other contracted services, such as local transport and audio/visual requirements
Manage on-site event preparation and logistics
Aggregate and analyze event satisfaction surveys
Research and Communications
Write communications materials to promote ANDE, its members, and its mission
Review and summarize academic and non-academic reports for ANDE publications
Write case studies on ANDE members and other relevant parties
Draft grant proposals and donor reports, assist in preparation of other grant reporting requirements and/or deliverables
Proofread and format final drafts of correspondence, reports, and publications produced by ANDE team
Update website on a regular basis
Conduct research and provide additional support as needed for ANDE research and communications efforts
ANDE team members, including Executive Director, Associate Director, ANDE Executive Committee members
ANDE member organizations and potential members
High-profile speakers and special conference attendees
Aspen Institute finance team
Travel required as often as bi-monthly
Knowledge, Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required
At least two years’ experience in economic development, preferably related to entrepreneurship in emerging markets
Strong interest in the work and mission of ANDE and the Aspen Institute and the ability to represent the organization externally
Experience with web based databases, preferably Salesforce
Experience with website management and editing, knowledge of Drupal or HTML a plus
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; including Excel
Knowledge of multiple languages preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills, energy, and initiative
Excellent research, communication, organizational and writing skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks with detail and precision
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
