The position of Program Manager provides an exciting opportunity for a mature, highly-motivated individual with strong project management experience and excellent communication skills. This individual will actively participate in the development and execution of strategic and tactical plans for Genomic Health programs. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate exceptional facilitation, organizational, and influencing skills. This candidate will also have a proven ability to manage a range of complex, high-impact projects simultaneously.


Project Planning
  • Works with teams and management to identify business opportunities and/or unmet needs, and then converts these to project plans
  • Collaborates with team members to develop detailed strategic project/program plans (scope, milestones, roles & responsibilities, timing, budget, communication and interface with any external alliance or collaborator partner organizations, etc)
  • Coordinates and contributes input to definition of scientific strategy to meet the business objectives of the written plans
  • Works with department heads to resource project teams, identifying potential resource conflicts and developing trade-off scenarios to resolve them

Project Management
  • Creates and maintains project/program timelines; responsible for analyzing the critical path and making appropriate recommendations to resolve issues or actions based on analysis
  • Coordinates and facilitates project/program meetings with a structure and agenda that is specifically engineered to ensure successful execution
  • Generates and disseminates meeting minutes which accurately capture key decisions, open issues, and action items
  • Proactively identifies any issues, concerns or challenges in regards to assigned projects / programs; Develop action plans to address open issues, including escalation to key external stakeholders as necessary
  • Follows up on status of task and action item execution both within and outside of meetings and updates project documentation (project timeline, meeting minutes) accordingly
  • Conducts proactive risk management: communication of needs, mitigation plans, and requirements relevant to internal/external partners and stakeholders
  • Manages development & maintenance of ISPs (Integrated Strategic Plans)
  • Demonstrates an ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities, to be flexible with respect to job assignments and both functional and cross-functional responsibilities; specifically, shows active and timely participation in revising/refining assigned projects and responsibilities based on business changes
  • Regularly reviews project/program team progress, and uses processes, tools and other related resources to ensure effective team dynamics and decision-making, as well as effective interactions with all internal & external collaborators
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities for streamlining or other efficiencies/improvements to his/her manager; implements or assists in implementing any changes or new processes
  • Assists in the development of project management tools
  • Builds high morale and team commitments to goals and objectives by creating a compelling sense of common purpose and direction

  • Has exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively articulate complex concepts and ideas to broad audiences
  • Is confident when interacting with various levels of management, stays focused and on-point, and is able to raise problems or challenges in a productive manner
  • Strong presentation skills; highly effective at summarizing and presenting decision points and key considerations
  • Strong influencing skills; proven ability to get things done without formal authority

  • Proficient with project management principles (e.g., resource allocation, cost estimation, risk analysis)
  • Proficient with project management applications, including enterprise-wide applications
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Project)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven track record of effective decision-making; makes good business decisions and exercises sound judgment
  • Strong negotiation skills; can effectively drive discussions and decisions toward desired results
  • Strong interpersonal skills; proven ability to develop important relationships with all key internal & external partners/stakeholders

R equired EXPERIENCE, education and/or licenses/certifications
  • BS minimum; graduate degree in relevant discipline is strongly preferred
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent is a plus
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Biotech environment and 3+ years project management experience

  • Travel Requirements: 10% Travel
  • Standing or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary
  • Some lifting (greater than 25 pounds) may be necessary
