This is a new position for the Maintenance and Modernization program reporting to L. Runkle, Director of Maintenance and Modernization. This position also reports indirectly to the Director of Submarine Safety, Deep Submergence Systems, Fly-By-Wire Ship Control Systems and Quality Assurance (QA) and the Kings Bay Site Manager. The primary focus of this position is EB site operations at Kings Bay, Georgia. However, support of other sites may be required. This position supports the implementation of the Corporation's Quality Management System and SEP Programs (SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC and FBW SCS) for shipboard and off-hull work and planning at Electric Boat's Kings Bay Organization. Assignments include SEP technical support; special investigations; problem resolution; periodic surveillance of planning and work execution; support and documentation of work and certifications for ship alterations; development and maintenance of quality attributes and metrics; and support of site self-assessments and process improvement initiatives. The successful candidate must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and a working knowledge of Electric Boat's material procurement processes, material control standards, work execution methods and SEP technical requirements. Candidates must possess a strong working knowledge of the delivered ship maintenance work and certification processes.
High School or US Navy experience is required. A BS/BA degree is preferred. Fifteen years minimum relevant experience, either at Electric Boat or involving submarine Special Emphasis Programs (SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, FBW SCS) is required.
A working knowledge of the material procurement processes, material control standards, work execution methods, delivered ship work planning requirements and methods and delivered ship certification processes used at Electric Boat is required.
A strong working knowledge of SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, and FBW SCS certification requirements is required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
Experience in leading and conducting audits and problem investigations is highly desirable. Formal training in quality auditing and/or quality management and experience in supervising quality assurance personnel is highly desirable.
Prior submarine shipbuilding experience is desired, but not required - Trades, Shipyard, Planning or Military experience applies. Knowledge of the Shipyard and EB Off-Site organizational structure and processes is preferred. A proven ability to interface with Operations, Engineering, Design, Material Systems, Configuration Management, Quality and other EB organizations at various levels of management is highly desirable. The individual filling this position will be called upon to represent Maintenance and Modernization organization at various Construction status, Process Improvement and Program Review meetings. Prior experience with MRP II, Artemis, MS Project is required. Prior experience with Task Group Instructions and/or Formal Work Packages (FWP) is required. The successful candidate will be expected to know, comply with and participate in site improvement goals for Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Continuous Improvement.
Permanent location in the Kings Bay, Georgia area is required. Periodic travel to other shipyards in the continental United States and the Far East may be required. Detailed knowledge of SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, Fly-By-Wire technical requirements is required. DOD Secret security clearance or higher is required. The successful candidate must be adaptable to a team-oriented environment.
