Builds and codes modifications for a mainframe production system using CICS/Cobol language and JCL. The Help Desk is a team of 15 dedicated to the support and maintenance of VMS, the DME MAC Medicare system. This role would be as part of The Help Desk (THD) support team, ensuring that the batch jobs run successfully each night, as well as providing solutions to reported problems that may go into production on a quarterly basis or on Off-Quarter releases if they are high priority. The successful candidate would be someone looking to increase their technical and professional skills; assisting with analysis of issues that are of low to medium complexity and helping with the design of solutions that meet the user needs; as well as coding and testing skills in Cobol. Flexibility to work on any role within the Help Desk (HD) is required to assist in coverage support when people are sick or on leave and alternative coverage is needed. Must be a good communicator and team player as well as able to build a good working relationship with other teams within VMS.
Hours are 80 over a two week period and core hours are 1pm to 1am or 3pm - 3am three days a week with 8 additional work hours one weekend in three.
This position will offer a good start in VMS for anyone that is looking to further their technical skills and grow within the company.
1. Plans, develops, tests, and documents mainframe-resident applications programs.
2. Generates new code and corrects, converts, and/or modifies existing code to meet specifications.
3. Prepares detailed specifications from which code will be written.
4. Confers with end-users to analyze specified methods and procedures, identify problems, and document specific requirements.
5. Performs a variety of testing procedures on assigned products, analyzes test results, and corrects problems.
6. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
7. Participates in special projects as required.
Bachelors Degree in a Computer Science or related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
2-5 years of directly related computer programming experience.
Knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures used in computer programming in Cobol and JCL.
