The Project Controls Group (PCG) promotes achievement of site goals through the control of cost and schedule of major projects. Consistent strategy and methods are applied but may be adapted as appropriate for project size and complexity. The PCG monitors funding and costs, provides financial and scheduling services to Project Managers (PMs), and reports out to senior management and Finance. The group also leads overall planning and reporting of capital budgeting at ALF and supports management of the project portfolio for continuous alignment with site and corporate objectives.
Responsible for the consistent use of project controls tools and standards across all assigned projects
Responsible for development, publication and use of reliable and accurate project performance data
Report status of projects through project management, project controls and senior management functions
Provide guidance for the development of efficient, effective project status reporting tools Supporting Responsibilities
Acts as the primary contact with and support to assigned Project Managers (PMs)
Promotes project management best practices, including project financial accountability; timely and robust reporting; application of the Phase Gate model; and maintenance of detailed schedules
Meets with PMs biweekly or as needed to analyze project safety, finance, progress, plans and risks including the following:
Safety issues, risks, and metrics
Planned vs. actual financial metrics
Planned vs. actual progress metrics and look-ahead schedule
Planned vs. actual purchasing, accruals, and spending
Risks to budget (i.e. project final cost) and schedule (i.e. delivery date)
Escalates issues and risks as necessary to the Project Controls Manager
Furnishes budgetary information for justifications of purchase requisition
Aggregates ALF capital project accruals and reports to ALF Finance monthly
Maintains the ALF Capital Budget Portfolio Spreadsheet
Maintains the Capital Reporting Tool (CRT) and submits quarterly and as required to Corporate Capital with ALF Finance approval
Gathers and analyzes data from SAP and other sources for monthly and as-needed reporting
Adapts and uses Sanofi/Genzyme corporate and global standards as appropriate
Facilitates inter-project and interdepartmental communications to identify synergies and avoid interferences
Collaborates with Project Managers, manufacturing management, QA, and other stakeholders to accomplish the missions stated above.
Supervises junior staff as required as direct reports or on a matrix management basis Leadership Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and lead less-experienced staff to improve individual performance and increase group capabilities. Demonstrated ability to lead or co-lead cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives. Ability to communicate project controls principles and practices to technical and business professionals who are unfamiliar with them. Ability to analyze and challenge data reported by PMs when required
Bachelor's degree with 9 years or more experience in capital project engineering, coordination, and management, preferably in the biopharmaceutical industry. Experience with financial spreadsheets and scheduling software is required.
A keen understanding of capital project finance including budgeting, purchasing, cash flow, and forecasting. Experience with spreadsheets and financial enterprise systems such as SAP.
A background that demonstrates understanding of capital project management best practices preferably in the biopharmaceutical industry. A track record of successful cross-functional collaborations to facilitate positive project outcomes. An understanding of the engineering and construction process and the project/facility lifecycle in the regulated pharma industry.
