Project Director (A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE®)

Education Division, Washington DC Regional Office

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Based in Washington DC and serving District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina, the Project Director (A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE®) will direct and oversee all aspects of the regional A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute education and community programs. Coordinate, adapt and deliver local training programs and educational anti-bias initiatives and programs tailored to the local community. Write grant proposals and implement education fundraising efforts. Staff and facilitate the Education Committee of the regional board.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Market, coordinate and implement A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute anti-bias programs and Holocaust Education programs to local educational institutions and community organizations. Develop training agendas based on regional needs and personally conduct some training sessions and workshops.
  • Negotiate and generate contracts associated with education programs and events. Coordinate related special events in the region, including program launches, campaigns and conferences.
  • Oversee the regional budget for A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute and dedicated education grants. In collaboration with the Development Division, write grant proposals, conduct solicitations and assist in fundraising to support local programs and services.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate a cadre of per-diem trainers. Coordinate schedules and assignments, and plan and oversee professional development opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate regional education programs and compile, prepare and submit required reports for the National Office.
  • Conduct meetings with and presentations for potential clients. Maintain client database. Create promotional displays and informational materials.
  • Develop community relationships and network with educators to facilitate effective delivery of education programs. Collaborate on programming with partner agencies.
  • Provide staff support to lay-led task forces and committees such as the Education Committee of the Board.
  • Represent the local and national office at external conferences, seminars and meetings.
  • Provide assistance to regional staff on other education programs.
  • Supervises the work of per-diem trainers. May oversee the work of a professional and support staff person.
  • Participate in fundraising events and other ADL activities as required.
  • Submit information on regional education events of interest for publication in ADL regional and national print and online newsletters.
  • Work with regional staff to respond to discrimination complaints, anti-Semitic incidents and other civil rights issues.
  • Some travel within the region is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education/Training or a related field plus additional related college courses, professional training or equivalent work experience.
  • Four or more years of progressively responsible experience in community service, education, program management or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills and comfort with public speaking.
  • Strong curriculum and program design skills and an understanding of diversity issues.
  • Computer skills, including word processing and database management applications.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary to represent ADL, conduct training sessions and attend community events.
