This position is responsible for managing one or two moderately-sized projects or several smaller-sized projects for a major segment of the Mortgage Banking business. This position is entirely focused on program/project execution. This position leads the project team (including IT and business resources) through all or some of the Project Life Cycle, potentially from idea generation through final execution and closure. Knowing when to adhere vigorously to the PLC and when to seek management permission to veer from the PLC shows maturity in Project Manager. Ensuring timely visibility of issues and risk are critical for this position. Good written and verbal communication skills are required because this position sometimes interacts with employees at a variety of levels in Mortgage Banking. This position is responsible for ensuring inclusion of all key stakeholders and control groups including Legal, Compliance, Controls, Risk and Audit for project delivery when and where appropriate. It is critical for the person in this role to understand when and how to escalate decisions that are beyond the position's authority. An understanding of how to work within structured decision-making and project methodology, and knowing when to challenge topics, issues and decisions are skills that will set a Project Manager apart from his/her peers. Collaboration is critical as the Mortgage Banking environment is one that does not allow for individual players; every decision and project is interlinked to other areas not directly within this position's direct line of influence. This position may, but typically will not, manage employees. If so, this position is expected to identify, hire, and retain an excellent workforce through networking, mentoring and providing timely, honest and constructive feedback to his/her employees.
