Regular, Part-Time (40% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the College of Pharmacy, Clinical Practice and Research, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.


DUTIES: Works in an interdisciplinary team, composed of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and other allied health care professionals to determine the most appropriate treatment for a patient. Monitors patient chart for appropriate dosing of medications and for appropriate monitoring of adverse events of medications. Precepts fourth year pharmacy students on rotations in psychiatric pharmacy setting. Verifies order for patients in pharmacy at a psychiatric facility. Provides patient education regarding appropriate use of medications, in one-on-one sessions and in group settings. Disseminates medical information to other healthcare providers during in-services and other continuing education opportunities. Conducts a year-long research project regarding the practice of psychiatric pharmacy, to be presented at the annual meeting of the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Doctoral Degree from an Accreditation Counsel for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college or university in Pharmacy (PharmD). EXPERIENCE: Completion of a PGY-1 residency or two to three (2-3) years of equivalent experience (i.e. clinical pharmacy activities in a hospital or clinic, including being responsible for some direct patient contact). ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge of the disease states present in psychiatric pharmacy. Basic pharmacy practice knowledge. Ability to work with psychiatric patients, conduct patient interviews, gather appropriate information, and make appropriate recommendations.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Prior experience in psychiatric pharmacy.
