Completion of an accredited associate, baccalaureate or master’s degree program in Nursing. Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota. CPR for the professional rescuer or BLS for healthcare providers required.
Knowledge of current nursing practices and techniques. Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively participate on an interdisciplinary treatment team. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, family member and co-workers.
Utilizing our core values integrated in our 'circles of support,’ care model, our multidisciplinary team provides patient and family centered care. We offer a welcoming and respectful environment that is stigma free to patients and their families. A variety of care programs are utilized 7 days a week, including: Illness Management and Recovery (IMR), Trauma Informed Care, complementary therapies (such as pet, music and yoga therapies), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), sensory integration interventions, pool therapy and comfort rooms.
Northeast 5, located in our new facility, has 20 private rooms/bathrooms (some handicapped accessible), separate dining and day room space, a spacious group room, a comfort room, and open areas for visiting and relaxing. In addition patients have access to a large activity room and secured outdoor space.
Patients on this unit are 18 years and older and are experiencing an acute mental health illness of high acuity. In addition, patients may have medical/surgical conditions that are being treated and require intervention.
To work in our mental health department, staff must embrace our core values. Competency in caring for patients with a mental illness, including de-escalation, crisis intervention and negotiation skills is required. Staff must display a caring and positive attitude, embrace diversity and demonstrate a strong support for a stigma free culture. Staff completes specialized training in Illness, Management and Recovery (IMR), Trauma Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing.
Nursing specialty certification is greatly valued and strongly encouraged.
Flexible, patient focused, team oriented BSN--inpatient MH experience preferred.
