JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for first contact of public relations and obtaining pertinent information regarding inpatient, outpatient, and pre-registration. This position will cross train to other job positions/duties within the department. Will be required to identify and collect appropriate payments, co-pays, and/or deductibles as applicable by insurance or payor source. Will be responsible for contacting a Financial Counselor for self-pay patients. Must ensure that patient safety requirements are met
Education, Training & Licensure: High school graduate or equivalent required. Basic data entry required and courses in Medical Terminology helpful. Medical experience in ICD9 coding process, insurance billing and/or Medicare LMRP will increase entry-level pay rate.
Knowledge, Experience & Special Skills: One year experience in Hospital Patient Registration Office or in clerical work related to Healthcare. Must have some experience or knowledge in patient accounting procedures such as: insurance billing and financial counseling. Must be able to type at least 40 wpm. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, decision-making skills, and exercise good judgment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS STRENGTH FACTOR: S - Sedentary Work - Requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
