The Village of Glencoe, Illinois, population 8,723, located on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan approximately 20 miles north of Chicago seeks experienced public safety professionals as candidates to lead its fully integrated (fire/police/EMS) Department of Public Safety. The Public Safety Department staff consists of 33 sworn personnel (18 are Paramedics, the remainder are Emergency Medical Technicians,) and is supplemented by 9 full-time civilians, 8 paid-on-call firefighters,8 parttime school crossing guards and a stand-alone 911 communications center The Glencoe Department of Public Safety is recognized as being highly professional and is the only fully integrated public safety department in the world that is accredited by both the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and the International Commission on Fire Accreditation. Glencoe historically maintains a low crime rate in a family friendly bedroom community that includes 220 acres of park/conservation land and an outstanding school system. Glencoe is seeking an experienced public safety leader (fire and/or police) with strong communications and interpersonal skills. Commitment to high professional standards is required; experience with fire or police accreditation and exposure to both fire/EMS and police service is desirable. Candidates must possess a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in police and/or fire science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration or other closely related field. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in public safety, law enforcement or fire service, including three (3) years of increasing responsibility in a supervisory or management position is required. Command level leadership training, such as the FBI National Academy, Executive Fire Officer, or School of Staff and Command, and/or a Masters degree are desirable. Glencoe officers have recently elected to form a collective bargaining unit; therefore, experience in a union environment is a plus. Appointment is made by the Village Manager. Salary: $130,000 +/- D.O.Q. An attractive benefits package is also offered.
