Oversees quality assurance procedure under the general supervision of the QA supervisor; renders assistance in the day-to-day administration of the laboratory.
Essential Functions:
Knowledgeable in the handling of slides and blocks from microtomy, to final delivery to the medical department for distribution to the pathologist.
Assists supervisor with day to day administration of Histology Laboratory. Defined duties include:
Verifying every slide for their accuracy in relation to accession number, patient initials and tissue demographics.
Verifying every block for their accuracy in relation to accession tissue demographics; compare to QA log generated by computer system.
Arranging and filing blocks at designated place.
Delivery of slides to Medical distribution department after verification.
Assisting in the administration of all Quality Control Programs.
Assisting in the scheduling of work flow
Compliance with all Federal and State regulations pertaining to histology. Specifically:
Adherence to workload requirements.
Maintenance of accurate work records, i.e., QA logs, Maintenance Logs, etc.
Assists product line leaders with responding to questions and problems.
Reviews slides for overall quality of preparation such as staining intensity, proper cover slipping and stain artifacts to help insure accurate diagnosis.
Position Requirements:
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in science
At least one year of related laboratory experience
Working knowledge of computers and various program
Strong clerical skills and attention to detail
