General Purpose Support operations and maintenance of distributive control systems (DCS) and related equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Administers processes and procedures as required by the Assistant Plant Manager which include: a. Identify and implement On-condition tasks b. Evaluate recommended changes based on cost/benefit c. Specify instrument changes as required 2. Reviews PID’s and logic diagrams. 3. Maintain, calibrate and repair plant instrumentation and control devices. 4. Creates startup procedures related to instrumentation and electrical systems. 5. Maintains documentation records of calibration, tests and certification of electrical and instrument equipment. 6. Computes and analyzes test data. 7. Prepares reports on findings and makes recommendations. 8. Reviews and maintains all system startup procedures to determine control and electrical personnel support requirements. 9. Plans job and specifies and orders material to complete assigned tasks. 10. Any other reasonable duty or responsibility dictated by supervisor. 11. Will be a qualified operator and maintain proficiency.
Required Skills
Knowledge, Skill and Ability • Knowledge of power plant equipment • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing • Ability to interpret control drawings and P&ID’s • Ability to make maintenance related decisions with minimum direct supervision • Knowledge of test equipment, signal generators, relay tests sets, oscilloscopes and computers • Skills in using instrument and electrical maintenance tools • Skills in computer software and hardware • Knowledge of distributed control systems, in particular Yokogawa DCS • Knowledge of Woodward Netcon 5000 Education • Three years of college courses pertaining to the electrical or electronic field –OR- three years of technical training in the electronics field –OR- completion of training at an electronics training institute –OR- the equivalent. Experience • Minimum 5 years industrial plant experience • Prefer specific power plant experience Material and Equipment Directly Used • Computers • Oscilloscope • Signal Generators • Control configurations tools • Relay test sets • Multi-meters • Various hand and power tools • Power plant auxiliary equipment and associated controls Working Environment • Work is generally performed inside the power plant environment but may require periods of work outside in the inclement weather • Will be required to be “On Call” for specified shifts to support emergency repair or monitoring as necessary Physical Demands • Work can be physically demanding, requiring a great deal of walking, lifting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, etc. • Able to see to determine plant-operating conditions and to avoid safety hazards • Able to hear at required decibel levels • Able to climb stairs and lift 50 pounds and carry for 20 feet Mental Demands • Able to do advanced arithmetic functions (algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics) • Able to read and understand complex technical information such as electrical specifications, contracts, trade journals, equipment specifications and instructions • Able to respond quickly to abnormal plant operating conditions • Able to follow written and verbal instructions • Able to analyze causes and effects situations • Able to read, understand and revise maintenance and operating procedures • Able to handle emergencies including fire, tornado, medical, thunderstorms, etc. • Able to effectively communicate via phone, email and/or fax to fully utilize vendor support systems
