DESCRIPTION

GENERAL FUNCTION: Provides guidance, direction and supervision to student employees in the assigned dormitory. Assists student employees in their academic, vocational, employability and social development.

DUTIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Supervises all student employee activities in the residential area.2. Fosters a dorm atmosphere conducive to positive, social and emotional skill development.3. Assists with student employee adjustment to Center life and with making behavioral changes that will enhance the student employee's future.4. Maintains a clean, orderly, safe, and comfortable dorm atmosphere and appearance and supervises student employee housekeeping chores.5. Maintains accurate information to ensure student employee accountability at all times.6. Conducts weekly dorm meetings for planning required activities, permits an exchange of student employee views on dorm needs and problems, and encourages leadership development.7. Provides individual and group guidance on an informal and/or structured basis in close coordination with appropriate counseling staff.8. Maintains accurate records of the personal and social development of each student employee and participate in periodic reviews of individual student employees progress.9. Facilitates Social Skills training sessions and completes the STAR.10. Acts as role models and intervenes in student employee behavior when necessary.11. Describes goals, performance expectations and standards, and articulates how their individual performance supports the admission, career preparation, career development and career transition of student employees.OTHER FUNCTIONS: 1. Exhibits behaviors and best practices that are consistent with the vision and values of the company.2. Practices social skills and behavior management with students and staff that are consistent with the Job Corps Social Skills Training Program and Behavior Management System.3. Practices safe work habits to eliminate and control potential safety and health hazards and to maintain a safe work environment. Attends all safety training as scheduled.4. Works as part of the team to assure that Standards Outcome Measurement Report Card goals are obtained.5. Displays, supports and integrates employability skills, attitudes and knowledge into all phases of career development and student life on Center.6. Operates Center vehicles to provide transportation for students as assigned/needed.7. QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Residential Advisor IHigh School Diploma or equivalent, with one-year experience working in a residential setting required. NOTE: Associate Degree is preferred.Residential Advisor II An Associate Degree or equivalent, with one-year experience working in a residential setting is required.NOTE: A Bachelor Degree is preferred.Safe driving record required.Substitution: Education and experience above the high school level may be combined to meet the minimum requirements for this position. One year of college education may be substituted for two years of Job Corps experience or experience in a similar area. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Effective verbal and written communication skills.Effective organization skills.Effective interpersonal skills.Licenses or Certificates: A valid Regular Driver License is required.
