DESCRIPTION

Functions as an Academic Instructor in a classroom setting, providing instruction in skills necessary to master academic competencies. Provides instruction, administers tests and evaluates progress in reading, writing, social studies, science and mathematics understanding and proficiency. Provides remedial materials and instruction when required. Manages the classroom by providing lessons that address student employee learning styles and needs and incorporating individualized, paired and group learning experiences for student employees.2. Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to ensure maximum learning.3. Provides classroom instruction, guidance and supervision in the use of the Center Information System (CIS).4. Follows accountability procedures and counsels student employees regarding the importance of class attendance.5. Strives to achieve Center and departmental goals, and helps the Center meet targeted standards in terms of Outcome Measurement Standards.6. Conducts class in compliance with Policy and Requirements Handbook, Technical Assistance Guides, Corporate Standard Operating Procedures, Regional CDSS Plan, Department Operating Procedures, and appropriate Class Course Guides.7. Ensures that all required materials and equipment are maintained, inventoried and being used correctly.8. Maintains and secures classrooms, storage areas, materials and equipment.9. Provides employability skills, social skills, diversity training and conflict resolution training to student employees during the Career Development Period. 10. Arranges classroom to facilitate easy access to materials, student employee work folders, class information and supplies.11. Describes goals, performance expectations and standards, and articulates how their individual performance supports the admission, career preparation, career development and career transition of student employees.OTHER FUNCTIONS: 1. Exhibits behaviors and best practices that are consistent with the vision and values of the company.2. Practices social skills and behavior management with students and staff that are consistent with the Job Corps Social Skills Training Program and Behavior Management System.3. Practices safe work habits to eliminate and control potential safety and health hazards and to maintain a safe work environment. Attends all safety training as scheduled.4. Works as part of the team to assure those Outcome Measurement Standards Report Card goals are obtained.5. Displays, supports and integrates employability skills, attitudes and knowledge into all phases of career development and student life on Center.6. Operates Center vehicles to provide transportation for students as assigned/needed.7. Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned by designated and/or authorized staff. QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor Degree in Education and two years of teaching experience required,preferably at the secondary level. NOTE: Concentration in Secondary or Adult Education preferred. Advanced degree highly desirable.Experience with at risk or culturally deprived youth highly preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Effective verbal and written communication skillsEffective organizational skillsEffective interpersonal skillsClassroom instruction and curriculum developmentAbility to interpret data and analyze its use within educational programs Licenses or Certificates: A State Teacher's Certificate is required.A valid Regular Driver License is required.
