GENERAL SUMMARY
This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for using laboratory equipment and standardized procedures in the Culture Plant to test and evaluate the company’s products with regard to quality standards.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (* = Essential Functions)
1. * Conducts all required tests on finished product for quality control approval in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
2. * Performs various in-process laboratory tests on finished product.
3. * Performs inoculation of IM flasks and coordinates production of IM medium.
4. Utilizes aseptic techniques to ensure sterility of all media, equipment and work areas.
5. Keeps detailed and accurate records in appropriate company database (SAP, CHEOPS, LIMS) of all tests performed or evaluations/analyses conducted.
6. Completes production journals, batch records and/or lab requisitions.
7. Communicates any testing nonconformance to management or process technology as necessary.
8. Assists with training of staff as identified by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. Ability to read and comprehend documents such as standard operating procedures, equipment manuals, and blend formulas.
2. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from colleagues, other departments and occasionally auditors.
3. Ability to interpret testing results and follow SOP document for appropriate action.
4. Ability to operate a variety of lab equipment and instruments and a variety of office equipment.
5. Possess a working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and ISO compliance requirements.
6. Skilled in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel as well as database programs.
7. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as rate, ratio, percents and volume using metric equivalents. Perform temperature calculations in Centigrade (C). Perform basic dilution series on product in accordance with specifications or recipes.
8. These characteristics are normally acquired through a Bachelors Degree in a scientific field or three years experience in a laboratory environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting, temperature and noise levels are adequate with occasional exposure to cold temperatures. Personal Protective Equipment is required at all times. This includes a lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, and gloves. A dust mask is required when working with powdered media substances. Weekend work may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
