Job Description:
Monitoring and improving purchase material quality. Will inspection of new material; containment of defective material; disposition of defective material: analysis of quality trends; initiation and verification of corrective action; and supporting related Purchasing, Engineering and Manufacturing goals.
Perform needed inspections to verify compliance of purchased material quality. Including documenting and communicating results. Perform First Article inspections on new parts or parts from new suppliers, and document results. Use statistical sample plans for inspection. Actively monitor quality history of purchased parts. Change sampling plans, or certify parts (eliminate future inspection) on low risk parts to balance strong protection with economic considerations. Document and maintain inspection procedures. Utilize CMM as the preferred tool for mechanical measurement, wherever possible. Meet with Manufacturing to learn what purchase material defects they have experienced. Verify suspect defects and perform measurements as needed to support other manufacturing needs. Initiate containment actions to remove defective material from the warehouse and factory locations. Work with suppliers when needed to ensure defect containment. Disposition all nonconforming material with input from purchasing, engineering and manufacturing. Quarantine all discrepant material to prevent its use. Work with engineering whenever material with specification violations are consider for use. Ensure that Waivers or Deviations are used when accepting out of specification material. College or post high-school technical degree required.

Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years experience in quality control preferred. Knowledge of metrology and mechanical measuring equipment (CMMs) required. Strong reading comprehension and good writing skills. Must have good MS Office Skills including Excel. Ability to work independently, manage own work, set your own goals, and complete assignments on time with minimum assistance. Effective communication skills with many different organizations, including Engineering, Factory, Purchasing, Warehouse, and Management. Ability to follow general instructions, to find needed resources, and to independently resolve problems. Analytic skills to identify problem causes and to verify solutions required. Excellent team skills, including ability to take the leadership role. Knowledge of contemporary quality assurance systems and techniques. Working knowledge of quality statistical methods including but not limited to: sampling statistics, FMEAs, SPC, descriptive statistics, capability (Cpk), GR&Rs and DOEs strongly desired.
Helpful:
Ability to read prints, and knowledge of geometric tolerancing required. Working knowledge of MS Excel and MS Access preferred. Ability to learn and work with corporate enterprise requirement planning (ERP) databases required. Prior SAP experience is a strong plus. Willingness to travel to suppliers to complete a supplier quality survey, to participate in review meeting, or to help communicate quality requirements. Ability to keep regular work hours aligned with factory schedule. Willingness to work overtime hours, when authorized. ASQ certification Mechanical Inspector desired, but not required.
