The Quality Technologist is responsible for supporting the Quality Management system and ensuring regulatory compliance for purchased and manufactured materials used to support the production processes for RJRT. This role requires visual and aroma assessment of received materials and flavor assemblies. This role also requires interaction and collaboration with many areas of the business, including but not limited to, Operations Management, R&D Product Development, R&D Flavor Division, and other RJRT personnel. This position will also have responsibilities related to regulatory compliance (HACCP, sanitation, inspection, etc.).
*Sampling of all materials received into the facility per procedural requirements and specifications.
*Perform sensory evaluations as required per specifications for odor and appearance.
*Quality verification and release approvals of all in-process & finished materials manufactured in the facility.
*Authorizing rework, reblend, or rejection of materials.
*Perform strategic, managerial, administrative & Subject Matter Expert roles during regulatory inspections; audits and inspections of records and the facility as required.
*Work closely with the R&D flavor group and Material Quality to investigate material failures.
*Develop preliminary reports and findings for review by Sr. Management; partner with area shareholders to provide root cause and data analysis for accountable processes; development and revision of SOPs and work instructions and other follow up in response.
Bachelors of Science degree in Science related with Chemistry emphasis preferred or
Associate degree with relevant experience (2+ yrs) or
High School diploma or equivalent with relevant experience (5+ yrs)
•Expertise in quality management systems preferred
•Experience in quality testing and analysis, Quality Systems compliance and production processes
•Knowledge of tobacco manufacturing processes, food GMP (a plus)
•Microsoft Office Professional Suite
•Strong written and oral communication skills
•Strong computer skills
•Problem solving, root cause analysis, Plan-Do-Check-Act, CAPA
•Ability to work with minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks
•Understanding of quality systems or quick-learner in understanding process systems
•Ability to interpret analytical test data
•Good organizational, strong record keeping, and interpersonal skills
•Strong analytical and decision making skills
•Familiarity with processes and materials used in Flavoring production
•Adequate level of sensory acuity required to perform material evaluations
