PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide assistance with patient related activities within the Division of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy
·Compliance - Patient Services Staff
Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.
·Patient Care - Age Specific and Culturally Diverse
Consistently integrates age specific and culturally diverse concepts into patient care, taking into consideration both the patient's chronological age and developmental functioning.
Assists with patient care activities under the direct supervision of a therapist to include preparation and maintenance of treatment environment, assisting patient with treatment activities and personal needs, and assisting with fabrication and adjustment of equipment. Demonstrates ability to communicate regarding therapy services to patient and family in a reassuring manner. Performs patient transfers and ambulation for endurance requesting assistance when necessary. Assists throughout hydrotherapy sessions following departmental guidelines for use of toys in hydrotherapy and cleaning/maintenance of tank. Carries out established treatment activities as assigned by the therapist. Utilizes proper body mechanics and follows all safety standards during all patient care activities. Recognizes unsafe patient behavior and reports to appropriate personnel. Responds immediately when a patient becomes ill or injured or in an emergency situation providing assistance as appropriate while maintaining a calm and controlled demeanor.
·ENVIRONMENT AND INVENTORY
Actively participates in maintaining a safe, clean, neat and orderly therapeutic environment. Monitors equipment and environment and takes appropriate action when problems are identified. Notifies supervisor in a timely manner when issues are identified that require their attention. Performs inventories routinely of toys, casting/splinting supplies, evaluation supplies, feeding and medical supplies, and personal protective equipment. Orders equipment and supplies as necessary based on results of inventories/need. Receives and stocks deliverables. Performs scheduled, routine safety checks on identified equipment and logs action.
Assists with tasks related to the general operation of the department which includes shopping for necessary supplies, assisting in the use of audiovisual equipment, and obtaining and delivering mail. Performs and assists with office/clerical duties as needed such as faxing, copying, scanning and shredding documents, and scheduling patient follow-up visits. Suggests projects and/or solutions to problems (i.e. moves equipment to facilitate traffic patterns) for the benefit of the department and initiates new project/solution with supervision. Takes the initiative to assist with special departmental or facility projects. Demonstrates ability to adapt to changing priorities making adjustments as necessary. Assumes responsibility for training and monitoring volunteers assigned to the department. Participates in the collection and compilation of date for research and the Performance Improvement Program.
