Minimum Education and Experience:

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
This position is being recruited for at the Contributing Competency Level under the Career Banding Program. The hiring range for this position is $35,363 - $46,069, and the salary grade equivalent is 65.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The primary purpose of this position is the extraction of DNA from blood and other biospecimens from numerous research subjects. It additionally involves quantitation and quality analysis as well as aliquoting and storage of the DNA specimens. A major component of the work will be running and processing samples on automated high-throughput pieces of equipment or manually. The position will use a computer-based specimen inventory and tracking system to detail receipt, aliquoting, storage and distribution of all specimens.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Candidate must have experience with blood handling procedures as well as general molecular biology and sterile tissue culture techniques. He/she should have a working knowledge of robotic equipment in a high-throughput environment as well as experience working in a HIPAA regulated, SOP-driven biological safety level two laboratory. The candidate should have the ability to adhere and master multiple operating procedures and be able to work independently. A strict attention to detail and highly organized work ethic is essential. Due to the labile nature of the samples, it may be necessary to work an adjusted schedule otherwise the normal work schedule is M-F 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer candidate to have one to two years of experience extracting, and analyzing DNA and RNA from blood, buccal, and saliva specimens. Knowledge of databases, interest in developing new procedures, and familiarity with computer programming is also a plus.
