National Instruments is seeking an experienced senior-level RF Design Engineer for our development group who has superior skills in high performance RF board-level design. The candidate must have practical experience and understanding of the trade-offs involved in high performance designs, as well as understanding of test equipment architectures. The candidate must also have carried several successful products through the entire design and manufacturing cycle.

Core Job Responsibilities
• Design board-level RF, microwave, and baseband circuits
• Design using CAD and synthesis tools
• Test your design using a hardware prototype
• Work with software engineers to implement system-level and other software support for your product
• Lead the efforts to develop documentation for the product
• Facilitate support required from Engineering Services (for drafting, layout, and mechanical design), Manufacturing, Marketing, and other departments to ensure successful development and timely release of your product
• Work and interact with a wide variety of NI staff in R&D software and hardware organizations, as well as employees from other business groups, including Applications Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Marketing
• Provide technical expertise and training as needed to Applications Engineers, Product Support Engineers, Technical Writers, customers, or other persons who use and/or support your product
• Perform research as required to specify and develop your product, or to define new ones
• Diagnose and debug problems with your product or problems arising when your product interacts or integrates with other NI products
• Review and approve product specifications and customer user documentation for the product
Position Requirements
Please Note: National Instruments does petition for H1-B (H1-B transfer) and TN status for this position
• Education: B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent
• Minimum 2 years of practical board design experience (prefer 5-7 years)
• The ideal candidate should demonstrate advanced experience with the following:
o RF/Microwave board level design including amplifiers, mixers, and filters
o Low-phase noise sources/synthesizers
o Low distortion discrete or integrated amplifier design
o High frequency modeling and simulation tools
o High frequency layout, shielding, and packaging
o Debugging, testing, integrating, RF/Analog and microwave related products
o Communication protocol testing techniques
• Deeper understanding of how to solve complex technical problems
• Demonstrated capability to independently define and drive significant hardware projects to successful completion
• Passion for learning about and working with computer-industry technologies
• Demonstrated ability to:
o Work effectively in a group development environment
o Problem-solve effectively - expertly diagnose technical issues and propose viable solutions; enjoy problem solving
o Take initiative in tackling difficult issues, be a self-starter, and work independently
o Persistently drive tasks and projects to successful completion
o Take ownership of goals, project schedules
o Listen attentively; actively engage in, and lead fast-paced technical conversations
o Quickly learn applicable technology, systems, and products
• Strong work ethic and drive to succeed
• English Language Competency and effective communication skills
• Can clearly and concisely communicate in English so that persons you work with can understand you clearly, particularly in technical conversations
