These crucial summer program positions work as part of the Leadership Team for the six-week summer day program s held in the City of Lakewood. The purpose of our program is to provide recreational, educational and therapeutic opportunities for youth and young adults with disabilities in a safe and fun day camp /program environment.
These key staff members serve in an active capacity where the environment is ever-changing and fast-paced surrounded by a professional staff committed to serving our participants and providing an optimal experience.
Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:
This temporary part-time staff grouping includes Head Counselors,Group Staff, Camp Care/Floating Staff for both camps.
Job Summaries are as follows:
Camp Paha Head Counselor Camp Paha Head Counselors are directly responsible for their group of 8-12 campers as well as their Counselors/Counselors In Training. Head Counselors report directly to their respective Assistant Director and are charged with supervising and directing group life, including managing the health and well-being of campers, providing direct supervision to their staff and managing risks associated with camp activities. Head Counselors also provide hands-on care for campers, including feeding, changing and other personal needs. Due to American Camp Association requirements, Head Counselors must be at least 18 years old, have completed at least one year of college and furnish proof of 480 hours supervising children. PAT Program Group Leaders PAT Program Group Leaders are directly responsible for their group of 8-12 participants as well as their group staff and volunteers. Group Leaders report directly to the Assistant Director for Transition/PAT Program and are charged with supervising and directing group life, including managing the health and well-being of participants, providing direct supervision to their staff and manage risks associated with program activities. Group Leaders also provide hands-on care for campers, including feeding, changing and other personal needs. Due to the transitional nature of the PAT Program, Groups Leaders must be at least 18 years old and have completed at least one year of college.
Specific Qualifications will vary by job assignment as outlined above.
Hiring ranges are as follows:
Camp Paha Head Counselor $9.00-9.85/hr
Paha Adults in Transition (PAT) Group Leaders $9.00-9.85/hr
KSA's and Physical/Mental Reqs:
Will vary per position but general KSA's include:
Possess ability in leadership and organization.
Must be experienced with conflict management and implementing positive behavior supports for campers.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with campers, participants, parents and staff.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Must hold current First Aid and CPR cards by the camp start date (training provided).
Position requires a criminal background check prior to hire with additional Colorado Bureau of Investigation clearance and TRAILS registry clearance within 5 and 10 day, respectively, of employment.
Able to lift or assist in lifting 50 lbs. (Lifting a wheel chair or an individual in and out of their wheel chair.)
