Owatonna Hospital, located in Owatonna, Minn., approximately 60 miles south of Minneapolis, provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services to approximately 35,000 inpatients and outpatients annually. It has 340 employees and 36 staffed beds. More than 52 active Owatonna Clinic-Mayo Health System physicians and consulting physician specialists work hand-in-hand with hospital-based physicians to provide a continuity of compassionate care for all patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provides skilled nursing care in a fast paced environment, health teaching, counseling, and referral of patients
  • Utilizes the nursing process skills of assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluation for individuals from newborn to geriatric
  • Patients include those experiencing complex cardiac diseases, pulmonary, renal, neurovascular, and orthopedic problems, including post-surgical who required advanced medical, nursing, or respiratory care
  • Close observation, telemetry monitoring and advanced technological services are offered per policy and procedure
  • Responsible for total patient care, including medication, orders and treatments
  • Assists the physicians in performing special procedures
  • Maintains the patient's clinical records
  • Assists with execution of the physician's orders
  • Keeps accurate electronic problem oriented nurses notes according to audit committee standards
  • Serves on Nursing Committee when requested
  • Provide comprehensive care of critically ill patients of all ages with single and multiple system failure
  • Ability to manage, at times, multiple infusion pumps running simultaneously, manage cardiac telemetry monitoring for Med/Surg
  • Set up medical equipment/instruments and monitor patient condition
  • Serve as a resource for changing patient conditions in Med/Surg

Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • Minimum Associate's Degree as a Registered Nurse
  • Current MN RN license
  • Minimum of 1 year Med/Surg RN experience required, Critical Care experience preferred
  • ACLS (or within 3 months)
  • BLS
  • Medical terminology
  • PALS (or within 6 months of hire)
  • TNCC (or within 1 year of hire)
  • Registered Nurse by Minnesota State Board of Nursing
Skills
  • Medical-surgical nursing skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent clinical competence necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient population served
  • This includes knowledge of growth and development over the lifespan, assessment, and interpretation of the patient's status, identifying patient requirements relative to age/development and providing care as described in policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and crises intervention

Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • Part time position
  • 30 hours/week
  • Day/Night shift
  • 7AM - 7PM and 7PM-7AM
  • Every 3rd weekend
  • MNA contract
RN hires with less than 1 year of RN experience must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing (American Association of Colleges of Nursing or The National League for Nursing) which is inclusive of a clinical rotation in an acute care facility.
