Job Description:

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, this position is accountable for the preoperative preparation, care and education to outpatients and AM admissions. The nurse also provides postoperative observation care, education and discharge instructions following surgery, radiological examinations and endoscopic procedures. The nurse in Same Day Surgery will provide total nursing care to a divergent population of patients ranging from newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients with multiple medical problems. The above staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.

Qualifications:

Completion of accredited associate, baccalaureate or master’s degree program.
Six months (1040 hours) experience as a registered nurse in a hospital, nursing home or transitional care center.
Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota.
Demonstrates at the time of employment and every two years thereafter, competency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The year when demonstration of competency is not required, a general review of CPR is required.
Registered nurses who have not completed 520 hours of applicable nursing practice in the past four (4) years must successfully complete a recognized refresher course in order to qualify for employment. Written information of certification validating successful completion of a refresher course must be provided before employment.
