Under general administrative direction, responsible for overall operation of the operating room/recovery rooms.
Provides guidance to staff on surgical specialty procedures. Ensures that case needs are met related to supplies, equipment and staffing. Coordinates inventory control: reviews product costs for cost effectiveness, maintains product levels for daily usage and specialty items, ensures instruments are functional, etc. Provides guidance as to throughput and efficiencies for surgical case scheduling. Assists the Educator for Perioperative Services with preceptor and staff education for their specialty. Provides leadership liaison support to the surgeon and accommodates the surgeon's surgical specialty needs. Ensures that the surgeons' preference cards are up-to-date. Works collaboratively with physicians, staff and leadership to improve departmental efficiency and patient care. Develops quality assurance indicators. Monitors productivity targets established by the department. Collaborates with the operational supervisor and leadership to create plans for service line development. Assists with operational budgets for their surgical specialty. Assists with revision of policies and procedures. Evaluates, documents and counsels the staff regarding job requirements and work performance. Ensures orientation of new employees, surgeons, physician assistants and other staff to the department.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; and
Two (2) years experience in an operating/recovery room.
Possession of a valid permanent license or temporary license issued by the
Oklahoma State Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education
registered nurse. (If working under a temporary license, you must obtain a
permanent license within 3 months of appointment).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of nursing theory, practices, techniques, procedures and standards plus the principles of supervising. Knowledge of perioperative services. Skill in planning and organizing, applying advanced clinical skills, maintaining records and charts, preparing written reports and in maintaining effective working relationships with others. Good computer skills. Must have good interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving and possibly moving/lifting of patients. Requires sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment. Must be able to stand for long periods at a time. Good mental and physical health to work for long periods of time in a highly stressful atmosphere is required.
