CLINICAL MANAGER - EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides overall clinical and operational management in collaboration with the Director in managed service areas.
o Accountable for the performance and results of the patient care area during a 24 hour / 7 day period.
o Oversees the execution of short and long term strategies in support of organizational goals pertinent to department.
o Establishes and ensures compliance with standards of clinical care, as well as maintains service line accountability for staffing, quality, safety, service and clinical excellence throughout the department.
o Maintains integral relationships with medical staff leadership
o Accountable for the implementation and proper application of policies, programs and services as established by federal and state regulatory bodies.
o Oversees staffing to ensure adequate coverage on any unit.
o Reviews, researches, and analyzes parent surveys and creates action plans to address parent satisfaction issues.
o Monitors quality metrics and changes in practice that impact clinical, financial, or operational outcomes.
o Manages professional staff and/or team leaders over multiple teams
o Typical span of control is 10
o Provides guidance, coaching, and feedback to team leaders on effective management techniques
o Makes employment decisions for the team Other Management Responsibilities
o Assists Director with the planning, development, and implementation of annual budget, including the preparation of budget feedback reports.
o Responsible for the development and implementation of performance improvement objectives.
o Reviews, approves, and forwards incident reports related to risk management objectives and initiatives.
o Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required.
Licenses & certifications
o Current licensure as required in the State of Texas.
o Minimum of 5 - 7 years of relevant experience
o Management experience or demonstrated leadership required.
Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities
o Physical and emotional health adequate for attendance requirements and performance which may include, but is not limited to: assessment of patient conditions, lifting/transferring patients, appropriate use of technical equipment, and rapid recognition and response to emergency situations.
o Ability to hear and communicate with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner.
o Must be flexible and adaptable. Conditions and environment are unpredictable and change frequently.
o Must be able to maintain CPR certification unless an exception is identified.
o Appearance projects a professional image and engenders the confidence of others.
o This job requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients ranging in age from 0 to 18 years. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and must be able to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
