Location: Medical Center, 6 Floor West
Ages: Adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with neurological illness/injury who require critical care; adolescent, adult and geriatric orthopedic spine patients who require critical care.
The NNICU provides comprehensive inter-disciplinary team care to neurological patients, neurosurgical patients, and orthopedic spine patients. The team includes physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, patient care assistants, patient care technicians, respiratory therapists, speech/language pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, pharmacists, chaplains, and health unit coordinators.
Treatment of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, Central Nervous System (brain or spine) Tumors, Complex Spine Surgery (post-operative), Intracranial/Intraventricular Hemorrhage, Acute Ischemic Stroke, Subdural Hematoma, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), Neuromuscular Disease (including but not limited to myasthenia gravis and Guillain-Barré Syndrome), Status Epilepticus, Central Nervous System Infections.
Capable clinician, focused on expanding knowledge and skills. Consistently provides effective direct care, as part of the interdisciplinary team, to a variety of complex patients. Seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice. Assumes a beginning leadership role but seeks mentoring in this process. Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program Experience: 1-2 years experience Licence/Certification: Must be a registered nurse and currently licensed to practice in the State of Virginia Employment in this job is conditioned upon satisfactory completion of a drug test. BLS certification required within 60 days of hire.
