The Charge Nurse, under the supervision of the Director/designee, is responsible for overseeing and directing the patient care activities on the unit during a worked shift. Activities specifically include: staffing for current and next shift, determining appropriate staff levels and mix to provide qualtiy care and maintain unit productivity, assign patient teams, assign beds to patients that are being admitted or transferred to the unit, work with Clinical Resources Department on coordinating admissions to the floor, delegate patient care activities to unit and ancillary staff, addresses work flow issues, ensures incidents are appropriately documented and corrective steps are taken, and serves as a resource to staff. S/he is directly accountable to the Director/designee. S/he follows accepted nursing practice and the policy/procedures at VVMC. S/he assists and/or performs procedures that are within the scope of nursing practice. S/he practices within accepted ethical and legal parameters of nursing. S/he may be caring for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults. S/he has the knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population within her department.
- AZ RN and BLS required upon hire.
- ACLS and PALS required upon completion of orientation period.
- 1-3 years Supervisory Experience Preferred.
