Supports and assists the Infection Control (IC) Coordinator and Specialist I with all activities related to the Health System's Infection Control program.
Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
Preferred: BSN degree preferred.
o Current clinical.
o Computer and internet skills and experience
o Current clinical expertise with critical care experience.
o Previous experience in information analysis, computer knowledge, quality improvement desired, however department will train.

Department Position Summary:
o Conducts infection control surveillance for early identification of problem areas as trained by the Infection Control (IC) Coordinator and Infection Prevention (IP) Specialist I.
o Utilizes data collection/surveillance tools taught by IC Coordinator and IP Specialist I to identify trends/issues on compliance with best practices; conducts root cause analyses for significant events &/or infection outbreaks, and post-hospital surveillance on all targeted surgical procedures and state reportable surgical site infections.
o Reports investigation findings from routine surveillance under guidance of IC Coordinator and IP Specialist 1 to nursing units and Medical Quality Improvement Committees, and monitors corrective action plans for improvement as requested.
o Assists the IP Specialist I in reviewing all construction projects pre-construction to assess risk; and conducts rounds during construction to identify and address safety issues as they might arise as requested.
o Assists the IP Specialist I in working with public health and other outside authorities and as liaison with Employee Heath and Safety on Emergency Preparedness issues such as Bioterrorism, pandemic influenza, etc.
o Assists the IP Specialist I as a resource for all departments on infection control issues/problems.
o Assists the IP Specialist I with preparation and presentation of educational programs for all levels of healthcare workers in the facility, and community as requested.
o Increasing knowledge of Infection Control and Prevention best practices and regulatory requirements.
o Works closely with the Clinical Quality and Process Improvement Staff on infection related improvement initiatives.
o Assists the IP Specialist I in mandatory State reporting of all central line associated blood stream infections and Coronary Artery Bypass postoperative infections, and implementation of new state rules and regulations regarding documentation, staff education, and monitoring compliance with best practices related to central lines, influenza prevention, and hand hygiene as requested.
