The Staff RN assigned to the Endoscopy Unit cares for adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for assigned patient. Responsible for meeting the Standards of Practice for Endoscopy and managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment. Participates in activities to plan, measure, assess, and improve the quality of patient care. Responsible for pre, intra and post- op, procedure/ treatment care. Responsible for pre, intra, and post-op procedure/treatment patient/family education. Administers medications as ordered by the physician. Responsible for the care and set-up of all endoscopes. Responsible for setting up all equipment (video, scope washer, etc.). Assists the physician with all Endoscopy procedures. Responsible for Conscious Sedation/Analgesia patient monitoring. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other clinical disciplines in making decisions regarding each patient
      's care needs. Works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital, and with physicians, patients and their families. Works closely with nursing students and instructors.

      Staff will also:
      Actively participate in departmental and house wide performance improvement activities.
      Participate in Core Measures initiative and assists in data collection as directed by Management

      Staff in this job category are responsible for consideration of development issues of patients in each of the following age groups identified:

      __ x __ Infancy (Birth to 18 months)
      __ x __ Toddler (18 months to three (3) years)
      __ x __ Preschool (Age 3 to 6)
      __ x __ School Age (Age 6-12)
      __ x __ Adolescent (Age 12 to Age 18)
      __ x __ Young Adult (Age 18 to 40)
      __ x __ Middle Adult (Age 40 to 65)
      __ x __ Older Adult (Age 65 and Over)

      Qualifications

      A. Two years nursing experience preferred.
      B. Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
      C. Current Texas licensure with State Board of Nurse Examiners.
      D. Current CPR certification.
      E. ACLS required.
      F. Demonstrated current competence as outlined in the appropriate orientation checklist.
      G. Medication Test score of 80% or better.
      H. Maintains current clinical competence.
